Rude Service has, yet again, delivered one of our favorite releases of the year.
Three songs and some of the most enterprising production you've heard in your life: That's the new FOCUSS EP.
It just dropped on Rude Service and it's called Distorted Vision.
Yeah, our vision is distorted after listening to this on loud.
This release features two collabs: FOCUSS' renditions with Malware and ODESHO, in addition to a solo song from the man himself titled, On My Mind.
FOCUSS DISTORTED VISION EP TRACKLIST:
Culprit - FOCUSS x Malware
POW! - FOCUSS x ODESHO
On My Mind - FOCUSS
FOCUSS told us the inspiration for Distorted Vision aligns with how his production skills have changed and evolved over the years. It also represents something many of us can relate to: poor vision.
"Without my glasses or contacts, my entire world looks blurry and distorted," FOCUSS said. "I thought the name sounded really cool, worked well with my artist name, and the idea of a figure pulling at the eyes for the artwork had been something I had in mind for a long time."
The first shining song on the release is called Culprit, and it's the FOCUSS x Malware collab. This song immediatley caught our attention for its lean and refreshing takes. The song features high-pitched elements, paired with slamming drops and futuristic melodies that we can't stand still to.
Malware told us the song came together in an unorthodox way.
"One day, I made a new idea while trying to make an intro that could be a movie scene," Malware said. "I sent it to Tyler on discord ... after not having any direction on what to do with the song, Tyler made a synth in serum (not the main lead melody) and we both stopped in our tracks and knew we had something cool."
He said from that moment, the song came together in a few hours.
Three songs is the perfect length for an EP, in our opinions. It allows for a three-course meal, if you will, featuring an appetizer, entree and dessert of sonic plates. This EP is no different.
After the Malware collab, FOCUSS leans into another energetic piece. It's called POW! and it's the ODESHO collab, satiating our thirst for speedy dubstep with sticky elements.
ODESHO told us that he and FOCUSS have been friends for a while, and that they whipped this song out in about two days.
"He had shown me a very early version, with no drop and barely any breakdown and I fell in love with the idea," ODESHO said. "He’s one of the most talented and fun dudes to work with and we ended up crushing the song in about two days."
The chemistry just clicked for this tune, and we are looking forward to another FOCUSS x ODESHO collab (hopefully soon).
The third and final song on this Rude Service release is called On My Mind; it's a FOCUSS solo song.
"I’m pretty much obsessed with all things distortion, and it’s an integral part of the vast majority of my work and something thats very apparent in these three tracks," FOCUSS said.
Rude Service has signed some insane FOCUSS tunes before, notably being the Crazy In The Head EP that was released in 2023. Now, they've doubled down on some of this year's best music yet.
