Tape B & Effin team up on their first collab 'Ups and Downs'

Two of bass music’s most innovative minds finally collide for a nostalgic, yet forward-thinking heater

When two heavyweights like Tape B and Effin finally link up, you know it’s gonna be something special. The long-awaited collab 'Ups and Downs' has officially dropped, and it’s an absolute mind-melter.

This one’s been brewing for a minute. A few weeks back, both artists teased the track on socials, and the bass scene immediately went feral. Fans have been patiently (or not-so-patiently) waiting for it to hit streaming platforms ever since, especially after Tape B dropped it during his headline debut at the Hollywood Palladium.

The crowd’s reaction? Pure chaos (peep slide 7 below)

Now that it’s here, Ups and Downs delivers on every level. It's a perfect storm of both artists’ signature styles – Tape B’s retro-infused vibes meet Effin’s precise, experimental sound design in a way that just works. Wobbly synths dance around nostalgic melodies, while the drops hit with that gut-punch energy we live for. It’s modern bass music with a throwback twist, and the synergy between the two producers is undeniable.

"Tape B and I have been sending each other ideas for over a year, and it wasn’t until this one that everything clicked," Effin said. "We put this song together in less than a week and it’s a perfect mesh of both of our styles – and you will definitely hear that. We both love how it turned out, enjoy!”

This release also comes at a time when both artists are leveling up in major ways. Tape B continues to ride the wave of momentum from his breakout year, while Effin is diving deeper into his unique creative lane, blending nostalgia with innovation like few others can.

Ups and Downs feels like a natural progression for both – a blend of old-school influences and futuristic production that shows where the genre’s headed.

Catch both artists on tour this year if you’re tryna hear this one live. They’re hitting massive festivals like Bonnaroo and Shambhala, plus solo stops like Jannus Live in St. Pete on May 9th and The Brooklyn Mirage on June 7th.

Crank the volume, run this one back a few times, and get ready for more surprises from these two. Something tells us this won’t be their last link-up.
