The dubstep tastemaker comments, “I would say this EP is my personal favorite I’ve ever created.”
Known for his “in your face” production style, Riot Ten has long been synonymous with the classic, bare-knuckled dubstep style we all know and love.
‘Feral’ sees the Railbreaker producer revisiting his early roots. The seven-track EP pairs his signature dubstep production style with searing vocals and tried-and-true collaborators. Fans will recognize past names on the EP like INFEKT, Peytn, Bok Nero and BLUPILL - each collab effortlessly conveying a new dimension of artistic synergy.
The EP starts out with a lesson in sheer versatility. Bounce That showcases Riot Ten’s genre-defying approach, featuring catchy vocals from Trigga Barbie accompanied by gritty basslines.
Next is his collaboration with INFEKT, All Black. The track layers rap vocals from $teven Cannon over hard hitting riddim, exposing a unique, stylistic dichotomy.
Bad Attitude with Boogie T. features rap vocals from Peytn alongside a wonky, drippy type of flow. This track continues the EP’s apparent theme of hip hop-infused bass music.
From here, 'Feral' really gets into the nitty gritty. Tracks like Tear It Down with Bok Nero, Elbows To The Dome with Zoinks & BLUPILL, and Feral, channel classic Riot Ten - placing whiplash-inducing dubstep front and center for the second half of the EP.
Closing track, Sunset Sonata, brings a grinding halt to the utter chaos that precedes it. The EP’s final moments are filled with a suspenseful, piano melody, signaling a foreboding end to the madness.
Riot Ten shares that the ‘Feral’ EP is a diversion from his recent experimental sound design, comparing it to previous bodies of work like 2018's 'Genesis' EP:
“Personally, I think this may be my heaviest body of work since my ‘Genesis’ EP back in 2018," Riot Ten said. "Most of my recent releases were more experimental to showcase the range. For the ‘Feral’ EP, I wanted to get back to my roots from the sound design to the vocalists. This EP is my personal favorite that I've ever created.”
Riot Ten is a revered alumnus of the Monstercat label.
The decision to drop the 'Feral' EP with the esteemed label is a given, considering both Riot Ten and Monstercat's caliber in the bass music scene. As his debut EP with the label, 'Feral' is the perfect addition to Monstercat's impeccable roster.
This weekend, Riot Ten is kicking off the Feral Tour in Germany at Nature One Festival, which will be followed by a set at Hungary’s Sziget Festival next weekend.
This brief stint in Europe comes before his North American tour starting this September, which brings along some of the most sought after talent in dubstep like Jiqui, REAPER, VKTM, HAMRO, Codd Dubz and others.
