Genre-bending is a surefire way to keep us on our toes, and Perry Wayne and CELO have got it down to a science in their latest single, Step Up.
Released today, Step Up combines the best of both producers. The track perfectly balances Perry Wayne’s immersive and dystopian production style with CELO’s high-velocity, genre-defying approach.
The first half of the track is a flurry of futuristic and cinematic overtones, followed by a fierce build-up and annihilating drop. From there, Step Up really ups the ante, featuring thrashing riddim layered with raw, metal vocals.
In true innovative fashion, the track is rounded out with a menacing hard techno beat: A full-throttle switch-up, accentuating the track’s unpredictability.
Step Up is a handpicked addition to NGHTMRE and SLANDER’s Gud Vibrations label, an imprint known for priming the best in bass music and beyond. CELO and Perry Wayne certainly fit the bill, as both producers continue to climb the ranks of the bass music scene.
When asked to elaborate on the release, Perry Wayne reveals Step Up as the first single off his upcoming EP:
“I’m really excited to kick off my next major EP with my collab with Celo, Step Up," says Perry Wayne. “It’s been a long-awaited debut of this track, and I’m excited to share it.”
CELO adds,

Perry Wayne and CELO’s collaboration has made its way from the studio to the show circuit for Crankdat’s Absolute Annihilation Tour, with their B2B slated as direct support.
Those hoping to witness the chaos live can expect to see the two artists reunite alongside fellow bass artist, RUVLO, for a truly boisterous B3B for Crankdat’s NYC show on October 5th.
