Criso continues his rapid ascent with latest 'ARTILLERY' EP on DUPLOC

Sound systems beware: this one's a screamer.

If you're a dubstep fan and haven't yet been acquainted with the crisp, punchy, 140 sounds of Criso, allow us to get you up to speed.

Fresh off his raucous debut at Infrasound Equinox earlier this month, the rising dubstep star is keeping his foot firmly on the gas pedal with the release of a brand-new EP titled DUPLOC ARTILLERY 5.

The EP has found a home on the legendary Belgian dubstep label DUPLOC, which has played host to countless notable dubstep names like Ternion Sound, ENiGMA Dubz, Pushloop and even INFEKT. Not only does this EP perfectly encapsulate the DUPLOC vibe, but it's also a testament to just how much Criso's signature sound has evolved over the 2-year lifespan of the project.

The opening track, Interfered, is arguably the highlight of the EP. I mean, seriously, if you have to wheel a tune twice at Infrasound, it's probably up there with your best work. This track has all the fixings that make up the signature Criso sound: Crisp high-end, booming low-end, filthy basslines and a catchy pre-drop vocal sample. Star Wars heads will instantly recognize this sample from Christopher Lee's legendary performance as Count Dooku in Attack of the Clones. This tune has endless potential for doubles, and we wouldn't be shocked to see some DJs playing around with it in their live sets soon.

Fans of the modern, deep dubstep sound will be pleased to get their ears on the low-end goodness that permeates the second track, Get Real. This track was released as the EP's lead single on DUPLOC's Soundcloud just a few weeks ago. According to Criso, this tune started as a simple sketch that he later realized he had something special cooking with. Get Real is an infectious, wobbly number that will undoubtedly get heads nodding and gun fingers in the air in a live setting.

The EP rounds off with DNA, which represents a fun sonic departure from the sounds we're accustomed to hearing from Criso.

"DNA is the antidote to counteract the heaviness of the other two tunes, a melodic counterpart," Criso said.

This track is a more toned-down cut that winds the EP down nicely. The tune has an old-school feel to it that shows a clear level of respect for those who pioneered the dubstep sound we've come to know and love.

For the real underground dubstep heads, it comes as no surprise that Criso is picking up steam the way he is now, as he's continued to pump out scorching tracks, mixes and live sets alike. This EP marks another massive stepping stone for the up-and-comer, and it's safe to say the Criso hype train won't be slowing down anytime soon.
