Best in Dubstep 2024: Cracking the case on releases, sets, venues, promoters & brands

This was the year bass music re-wrote the rules.

best dubstep releases, sets, venues, promoters, brands and photographers of 2024

The time has come to recap yet another whirlwind year. These were a turbulent twelve months where new brands emerged, renegades reigned king and dubstep became one of the biggest genres in the world.

2024.

This wasn’t just another year for dubstep—it was the year. The genre went mainstream in a way that had boomers Googling “What is riddim?” while artists, promoters, and fans continued to push the limits of what’s possible in bass music.

Whether you're an artist trying to keep up with the ever-changing musical landscape or a fan trying to keep up with ever-rising ticket prices, we hope you found solice in music this year.

We know this year was tough at times, but bass music continued to be one of the bonds that held us together. It's where we met new friends and discovered new songs. It allowed us to travel the world and set new goals.

We hope you found a few songs and attended a few sets that made your life better. Because in the end, the experiences made between us matter so much. Thank you for your constant support of the Dubstep FBI brand, and for constantly streaming our mixes, listening to our podcasts and hyping us up on social media.

We have a massive announcement coming in January to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of Filthy Beat Inspectors. Be the first to know by signing up for our text list here.

Stay locked & read on for our favorite moments of 2024.

We are always listening...

FBI'S PICKS FOR TOP RELEASES OF 2024

"Let's go gambling!" We knew this song was going to be a hit when we heard Excision drop it at Lost Lands. From that moment, Kompany and IVORY took the baton and ran. They left nothing to fate, ensuring the whole world knew this banger was on its way several weeks before the official release. Kudos to you all, this just might be the song of the year.

This track is straight up wild—there’s just something about it that makes you wanna drop everything and go absolutely feral. We've had Rated R on our radar since day one of Dubstep FBI, and watching his growth has been incredible. He’s definitely on the rise, and with 2025 looking like a huge year for him, we can’t wait to see what’s next. If this track is any indication, we’re in for some serious heat.

The dubstep world really needed a stand-out color bass EP to glue it back together. Sora delivered what might be his best work yet, in the form of six glorious songs on Disciple's main label. Some of our favorite tunes include mirror and protection (with beastboi.)

Tape V AKA the Dubstep Final Boss AKA Wubby Riddim was teased as a surprise release by both artists in mid November. The moment it dropped and FBI posted a video, fans were immediately calling it "song of the year." After polling several of you, this song (and Tape B's Distortion Theory EP) were mentioned time and time again.

This was a gigantic release that only hit our airwaves recently. Ever since Alison Wonderland played this during her Red Rocks set, we've had it stuck in our heads. Shoutout to both of these producers for finally unleashing this one for the world.

This seven-track EP on Deadbeats has turned into one of the most iconic releases of the year. Not only did it ignite Levity's nearly completely sold-out tour run, but it delivered instant classics like ONE FOR YOU (with ALLEYCVT) that is already sitting at 2.8 million streams on Spotify alone. Not to mention, Levity topped off an insane year with secret pop-ups (anyone attend that Denver surprise set at the park?) and by being genuine, friendly humans overall.

Crankdat has been on flaming fire for a few years now, but this collaboration proved why he's now a prince of the dubstep scene. Collaborating with one of the most iconic rappers of the 2010s and seamlessly blending it into a fully-animated video really gave fans exactly what they were looking for this fall.

This was to be one of the most played riddim songs of 2024, as indicated by its position as the #15 song on Beatport's most downloaded chart. The two artists did an incredible job of positioning this plate in a desirable way that built so much fan hype before the official release. We'll never forget INFEKT bringing out HAMRO to open with this song at his Ogden headline in Denver. Shoutout @mf.viktor and @joseph.i_o for sharing your thoughts on our insta poll.

YDG is living proof that you control your own destiny as an artist. He showed the world how it was done by going on an absolute tear, posting viral videos of his own remixes of songs like I Like The Way You Kiss Me, IT GIRL, and of course Down Low (by it's murph and Sorana) and Go Back (by John Summit and Julia Church). These remixes turned into some of the most recognizable drops at shows around the world, and were even played out at Coachella.

This song serves as a groovy banger for your mind, body and soul. The sparkling collaboration between two of our favorite wobbly women, Zingara and Steller, delivered exactly what fans craved. It was an instant playlist add, that has reached nearly a quarter million streams in just over one month of being out.

"I'M YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!" Every time we hear this track, it hits just as hard as the first time we heard it at Lost Lands 2023. This track is an absolute beast, and it never gets old. Vastive & AlienPark, if you notice a bunch of streams coming from Denver, it wasn’t us… okay, maybe it was.

This album is an absolute melodic masterpiece. With genres ranging from folk bass to heartfelt melodic bangers, and even hard-hitting techno, this album is a showcase of technical genius. We had the pleasure of having him as a guest on our podcast, where we dove deep into the story behind the album. If you haven't given it a listen yet, you're missing out. Oh, and we couldn’t resist asking him his secret to the perfect steak (because who doesn’t love steak?).

This title track is one of the most satisfyingly aggressive songs we've ever heard. The way RZRKT blends his signature growling sound into a catchy festival pit-opener is beyond me. His larger-than-life Lost Lands performance and his incredible sound design on the RUINS EP are part of why he had such a stand-out year. Shoutout to our friends at Bassrush for recognizing that talent and for Reporter @jazalta for the coverage.

Another slammer of a tune has emerged from the lairs of LAYZ and Future Exit. The pair of talented artists are coming off a hotter than hell Aftershock tour stop at Montreal's Club Soda earlier this month, where LAYZ brought out Future Exit to perform this collab. LAYZ has solidified her place as one of dubstep's heroes, selling out nearly every single stop on her second headline tour.

Talk about a catchy chune. Our favorite mammoth and one-eyed producers distributed the song of the summer with this one. Everyone knows the melody. It simply went off live. As a self-release, these two showed the world how it was done, setting an insanely high bar as both artists continued on a hot tear for the remaining six months of the year.

This is another instance of an absolutely mouthwatering riddim release that was coveted months before it actually dropped. After polling the fans (or, ravestituents, as we like to call them) this release and title track was mentioned time and time again. The team at our HQ couldn't agree more after hearing it played out at Lost Lands and venues across the world. Shoutout @wckd.dubz, @roguekale and @poof_mindblown for sharing your thoughts on our insta poll.

Marshmello & HOL! - Movement [Joytime Collective]

I honestly don't know how I was living before this song dropped. It's become another most-played hit, and has been stuck in our heads since its February release. This song has inspired countless remixes across genres, and was the first single off Marshmello's It's Riddim Time EP, which involved collabs with INFEKT, PYKE, Samplifire and BAW. Shoutout @lifeofizaac_ and @roguekale for sharing your thoughts on our insta poll.

Tell me you went to a function and DIDN'T hear this one. The song was released mid-year on DPMO and has become one of our favorite drops to rage to live. Claybrook is UK-based and criminally slept-on. Shoutout to Funtcase for ensuring this one made it in our list.

Honorable mentions (AKA more top releases we don't have room to write a paragraph each for):

FBI's TOP PICKS FOR 2024 PERFORMANCES

Svdden Death b2b Prosecute at Club Studio Time

SVDDENCUTE was not on my bingo card for 2024. The two legends popped in to our favorite neighborhood studio for one of the standout sets of the year. Not only did this instantly sell out, but it produced some of the most viral content of the year.

This was one of the "biggest, baddest, back-to-backs" of the year. Thanks, Club Studio Time Team, for hosting this core memory. :)

Funtcase b2b VERSA at Lost Lands

A stand-out moment of 2024 included two DPMO legends taking center stage (literally) at Lost Lands' new Crater stage. They didn't hold back, performing their first-ever b2b under a sea of lasers. Versa dropped some of the most coveted plates (Yoi song, anyone?) and Funtcase brought out heavy weaponry that reinforced his title as Dubstep's Dad. If you missed this set, you missed out.

Wobble Coliseum 3 at Hampton Coliseum in Virginia

These were two excellent days filled with some of the most insane indoor production we've seen. From sparklers to pyro, lasers to LEDs, Ganja White Night's team did an outstanding job of curating this show, featuring sets from Boogie T.rio, Inzo, Levity, Tripp Street, Tape B, Ternion Sound and A Hundred Drums.

MELLODEATH at Red Rocks

One of the biggest shows of the year was the Marshmello b2b SVDDEN DEATH set at one of the most picturesque venues: Red Rocks. The two icons went "Up-2-Down," emerging on a double-decker platform, topped off with insane production including pyro, lasers and custom visuals.

Codd Dubz at Lost Lands

Easily one of the rowdiest and most unforgettable sets of the weekend, Codd Dubz lit up the Sunday sound camps like no other. His signature quad chops had the crowd in an absolute frenzy, with mosh pits erupting at every drop. And yes, someone did toss a pizza into the crowd—but hey, it’s Lost Lands. Chaos is part of the vibe.

TAPE B at Mission Ballroom

Did somebody say lasers? Tape B showed Mission Ballroom how it's done with a set that had the crowd on their toes from start to finish. The energy was unmatched, and the light show felt like a scene straight out of a sci-fi movie.

LAYZ at EDC Las Vegas

We love to see badass women dominating the dubstep scene. From playing the Welcome Records art car in 2021 to absolutely demolishing the Basspod stage in 2024, LAYZ showed us all what persistence, talent and fire production can do. It’s inspiring to see her rise and take her rightful place in the spotlight.

The Resistance debut set at Home Bass in Orlando, Florida

In what some are calling the "best set of my life," and a set that is "not even up for argument or comparable to any other set," The Resistance caused unmatched violence at Home Bass back in June. Not only are they consistenty listed as fan-favorites, but they have the music to back it up. And while we have a hunch we know who is behind the masks, we'd like to thank them all for their service.

HOL! mission ballroom

HOL! at Mission Ballroom, Denver, Colorado [Riddim Rodeo]

HOLy sh*t. We had to open the article back up and add this set because it was unbelievable. The 360 set up made this event feel like a boxing ring, and fans packed the place near and far to celebrate this city's love for riddim. Shoutout and congratulations to HOL! for ending our year on a high note. Shoutout to everyone who played this show (Akeos, HAMRO b2b MAD DUBZ, PYKE b2b Aweminus, Shiverz) because y'all made this one of the best nights of the year.

PROMOTERS WHO RUN THE GAME

INFEKT's sold-out headline with HOSTILE in LA // photo by @ausmonte

Hostile in Los Angeles, California

We love to see people running things differently: That's exactly what Hostile has been doing this year. The promoter project has reinvigorated the underground riddim scene in Los Angeles by throwing "secret location" warehouse parties that sell out every time. Events like the Savage Society 10-year shows, a masked takeover (Sanzu, 7L, Chango, Inaktiv, Mongrel, Joust, Slyckz and Bonker), and the VKTM headline with Mad Dubz as direct support have created a new west-coast Mecca for our high-knee fam to call home.

DubHub, WubLife and Ether Presents

The creators of Dubstation Massacre deserve an ovation. These are some of the most tapped-in promoters we know, people who are always embodying the FBI mission of uncovering new talent. Huge shoutout to these guys for everything they did to throw safe parties for us in 2024.

Reunion Collective, China

If you're looking a stand-out riddim promoter in Asia, Look no farther than Reunion. They impressed the world as clips emerged from their underground function with Sanzu b2b 7L this fall, and we are hoping to line up a Dubstep FBI function with them in China some time soon.

Mutiny Music Collective

The fam over at Mutiny in Salt Lake City, Utah, is known for curating some sharp events. This has been reinforced by their stacked New Year's Eve event coming up with LSZEE, Tape B and Mersiv. The support acts include Chassi, G-Rex b2b Effin, Mile32, Pyke, The Resistance, Truth, Vampa and more. In addition to their upcoming events, they have a proven track record of excellence in talent buying and have demonstrated that all year long.

RiddimNYC

This promoter is a true example of an underground champion. While his page skyrocketed in popularity, he continued to stay true to his mission of putting on the scene's best rising riddim artists via his Riddim Bus. That's really what the fans what, after all, is an authentic place where they can go and share their love for the sound. We applaud Aaron for everything he's doing to make our scene a better place, and for using his platform to help young artists reach new supporters.

Riddim Restaurant

The French dubstep scene has always intrigued us. Add another reason as to why: Riddim Restaurant. This outside-the-box brand has been throwing some insane riddim functions that we need to investigate ASAP. Their unique branding deserves recognition, and their lineups deserve jail. Riddim Restaurant, if you're reading this, we have a warrant for your arrest. See you in Europe next summer...

Blacklist

The team over at Blacklist in Germany is doing an incredible job of stirring up interest overseas. Blacklist has become one of the most recognizable European promoters and brands to the American dubstep & riddim audience, due in part to their insanely well-curated Blacklist Festival and their presence at Bootshaus in Cologne (one of our bucket-list clubs). We are sure 2025 will be a massive year for the promoters who we hope to team up with some time soon.

Colorado Bassheads

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably seen footage of the "Afters" spot in Denver that keps gaining popularity. The CO Bassheads are some of the nicest people in town who give back to our community through charity shows such as the wildfire relief benefit this summer. Their most recent afters featured special guest HAMRO, and we have some lit memories from this year at Soul Quest Studios.

More promoters who we want to thank:

  • Frat Budapest

  • SYN London

  • BLNK CNVS Presents

  • Excision Presents

  • HAM Promotions

  • Amplitude

  • Bounce Beat Events

  • Space Yacht

  • Brownies & Lemonade

  • No Sleep Presents

THE FILTHY BEAT INSPECTORS' FAVORITE FESTIVALS

EDC Mexico in Mexico City

This was hands-down one of the best festivals we've ever attended. The festival grounds were so clean, the food was delicious and cheap, and the fans were die-hard. your favorite FBI agents showed up and inspected sets from VERSA, HOL!, Svdden Death, Bagha b2b Deceiver b2b Sanzu, and even some house sets (John Summit killed it). It's safe to say we will be going back again for more in 2025 to support the homie SweetTooth.

Peep our recap article of Rampage Open Air // Photos by FFC Media

Rampage Open Air at Kristalpark Lommel in Belgium

Rampage will always have a special place in our hearts after the first-ever Dubstep FBI stage hosting took place on the Tunnel Stage. The fans in Belgium were friendly and created a sense of welcoming community that we've found no match for. From world-ending aggression (Nimda, we're talking about you) to wiggle-inducing DnB (REAPER anyone?) to renegade-level riddim (The Stooges deserve jail), this festival has secured its place as a "Must See" for every headbanger and riddim rat in America.

Cyclops Cove at Sunset Cove Amphitheater

What in the world was that? (Rhetorical question.) Cyclops Cove looked absolutely bonkers this year. Our boots on the ground reported feral activity all night long, where VKTM b2b Mad Dubz, Automhate, Samplifire and INFEKT tore it up. Huge shoutout to the GOAT Subtronics for always creating a space where we can be ourselves and for being such a friendly, hardworking human who deserves it all.

Northern Invasion in Montreal, Canada

Not gonna lie, this show reinforced Montreal's title as the "Real Bass Capital." More specifically, when our agent @steviegaskin sent a video of Sanzu b2b 7L from the scene, we had no choice but to place Northern Invasion on the Most Wanted List. This place housed some of the most legendary riddim sets of the year within the walls of Club Soda in Montreal.

Apocalypse

In its second full year on the festival circuit, Apocalypse has inched closer to saving the world with a slammer of a show. Key sets from this year's event at the Queen Mary Waterfront included Jessica Audiffred (and her wall of death), Kai Wachi (and the active girl pit), Perry Wayne (during daytime), Marauda (inciting circle pits) and HEXX (who dropped her collab with Beastboi.).

Electric Forest

This festival is the ultimate playground for side questing, where every path leads to a new adventure. Sure, the weather wasn’t quite on our side this year with the cancellations, but the Forest Fam made the most of it like true legends. From the music to the art installations, you can explore it all in a day—if you’re ambitious—but let’s be real, the magic here is all about getting lost in the moment. Rain or shine, this place delivers vibes like no other.

VENUES THAT SHOOK OUR SOULS

Reelworks in Denver, Colorado

This venue serves as a fresh warehouse spot that hosts some insane riddim shows. One of our favorites was the 360 Puglist Pit event, hosted by Midnight Tyrannosaurus in November. The venue features plenty of space for fans who want to step outside the aggression, two full-service bars and an upper viewing deck for VIP. If you haven't seen this venue in person, this is your summons.

Hampton Coliseum, Virginia

Hampton Coliseum is where the dubstep legends come to play. Hosting some of the biggest headliners, this venue never disappoints. Who could forget Ganja White Night’s Wobble Coliseum takeover? With a capacity of around 9,700, there’s room for everyone—whether you’re in the pits or chilling in the seats.

1720 Warehouse in Los Angeles, California

One of the best parts of riddim culture is how it channels the off-grid, underground nature of the roots of the genres. 1720 LA does just that. In partnership with Hostile, the venue has hosted some of the most mouthwatering shows, including INFEKT's sold-out headline that kicked off 2024.

Club Soda in Montreal, Canada

This place has been a long-standing home to events like Northern Invasion, and has hosted sets from Midnight Tyrannasaurus, Nimda and INAKTIV just this past fall. It's one of the first venues that comes to mind when we are asked about Montreal's infamous bass scene.

Tacoma Dome, Washington

This place has become very well-known ever since Exicsion started doing his iconic Thunderdome events. Now, it's inspired other artists like Subtronics to load the place up and show everyone what a gargantuan indoor venue can do for dubstep.

Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California

The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is the ultimate bass arena—8,500-cap capacity, next-level production, and indoor vibes that hit different. Whether you’re headbanging in the pit or vibing in the back, there’s always room to let loose.

BRANDS BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY

We love giving kudos to the brands that do things differently. Club Studio Time rose to a record high this year, while establishing itself as the go-to place for community-based DJ sets. The best part? Entry is free. The second best part? Their team records every set with direct audio and uploads it to YouTube. Some of the most iconic sets of 2024 include ALLEYCVT, Samplifire, HAMRO, Codd Dubz and Riddim XXL (Rane b2b Mile32 b2b Yunit b2b crysomemore).

DMZ shocked the world by storm, emerging suddenly in the middle of summer with what appeared to be a meme page about the EDM industry. What it turned out to be was something much more: A new platform that serves to highlight both rising and established artists, mostly in the dubstep scene. This page has created a community where, among their ironic and humorous captions, artists are being showcased in viral ways. The comments on their posts always pop off and we actually look forward to seeing what they sensationalize next.

Let it be known that FBI agents served DMZ two citations this year at Lost Lands.

We are living in a world where dubstep and food go hand-in-hand. This is thanks to the new food truck recently launched by Bear Grillz and Stryer. Their Electric Donut Factory venture has been rolling up to venues around Colorado, serving donut sandwiches and hosting meet-and-greets at Police & Thieves Dispensary with artists like HE$H and Midnight T. Shoutout to these two for showing us what true EDM entrepreneurship is like.

Four Loko

As mentioned, we enjoy blending the worlds of food & drink with EDM. Four Loko has proven that they are one of the most fun drink brands in the world by constantly engaging with dubstep posts on social media. We opened a satiating case file in March when they Tweeted a photo of a Jungle Juice covered in "Hot Girls Love Dubstep" stickers, captioning it "Hahahehu it's the sound of the police." Their admin is woke as hell. And let it be known, we are down for an official Four Loko x Dubstep FBI beverage collab.

MP3 PR is the go-to team for all things music and entertainment. They’re always quick to let us know about upcoming releases worth covering, and we can count on them to spread the word like pros. With their knack for telling authentic stories and amplifying unique visions, they make the music world feel a little smaller and a whole lot louder.

PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO DESERVE A RAISE

VOYD at Rampage Open Air, shot by @ffcmedia_

This man is a machine. Not only did he accompany the FBI for four days of Rampage Open Air, but he immediately went back to business on the east coast as soon as he landed, following up the international festival with two days of Wobble Coliseum. We'd like to thank Cristian for being such an incredible street team member and friend, and someone who helps elevate our scene to new levels through his creative content.

We look forward to seeing Mentalcell content. The mark of a good media guy is when you can tell whose photo it is just by looking at it. Mentallcell does just that, while intertwining his distinct script and illustration elements on to edits in many forms. Tino, keep doing what you're doing because you are f*cking crushing it.

This girl has been running the game all year long. She's known for her insane photos of Tape B and did an incredible job of photographing Dubstep FBI's 2024 merch collection back in January. If you're looking to hire one of the best in the game, hire Natalia.

We have seen Coby's journey from rising photographer to industry leader. This year, he toured with LAYZ, capturing some of the most insane photo and video edits in the game. Specifically, his Lost Lands content had our jaws on the ground (check out his Kliptic video edit). We are betting big on Coby in 2025.

Yet another bad ass woman who is leading the way: 6ixxeyez has crushed several jobs for us and our team, and she does it with flair. We loved her creative eye on photos from the Lost Lands Crater, 7L b2b Chango at the Ogden and Beastboi at the Church.

We always enjoy following Justice's journey on social media, especially during Emorfik's Project Containment Tour. His ability to capture and deliver some of the most eye-catching content never fails to impress us. And let’s not forget—he keeps us inspired to stay consistent with our gym grind, even while on the road!
